J Michael Straczynski, who penned Clint Eastwood’s forthcoming Changeling and who created TV shows Babylon 5 and Jeremiah, has been tasked with writing the script with uber-producer Joel Silver producing via his Silver Pictures.

The original film is as classic as they come, and the smart money always said it was only a matter of time before a remake would be up and running. While it is too early to make any sort of judgement on the film, it appears to be in competent hands in Straczynski, who is known for his sci-fi and comic book work and is an informed fan of the genre. Silver, on the otherhand, makes us a little more apprehensive. He produced The Matrix, but then he was also behind The Matrix Revolutions, Moonlight, and The Invasion, too.
