The graphic novel, which was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon and ran from 1995 to 2000, tells the story of a preacher in a Texan town who sets out to combat evil when the town is destroyed by an otherworldly force.

For Sam Mendes, whose previous films include Road To Perdition, American Beauty and Jarhead, Preacher marks a departure from the usual kinds of movies he tackles. Although Road To Perdition was adapted from a graphic novel too, this will be the first time he has taken on a genre film and it will be interesting to see his take on the material. There is no news regarding casting as of yet.
