The 50-year-old actor will take on the role of Carnegie, the tyrannical ruler of a small town who seeks Eli’s book, the key to saving humanity. Oldman has, of course, recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s re-imagined Batman films, as well as playing Sirius Black in Harry Potter 3-5.

Filming on The Book Of Eli, which also stars Denzel Washington in the lead role, is set to begin next year with an eye to a January 2010 release.
