Ten of the best… doppelgängers

Some of the best lookalikes, impersonators, spitting images and body doubles in sci-fi.

mirror_spock4. Mirror Spock
Series: Star Trek
Year:
1967
Director: Marc Daniels
Cast: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley

While hardcore fans will no doubt demand the Captain Kirk gets a mention (he’s James T Kirk after all) we’re actually going to give the nod to the menacing parallel Spock, who appears in the second season’s ‘Mirror, Mirror’. Sporting natty eyeliner, one hell of a goatee, and the deadly Agoniser (a device used to deal out agony), the mistrustful Vulcan cuts a striking figure and is a world apart from the Spock we all know and love. The mirror universe proved so popular it also appeared in episodes of Enterprise and Deep Space Nine.

files3. Evil Superman
Film: Superman III
Year:
1983
Director: Richard Lester
Cast: Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Richard Pryor

Richard Lester’s second Superman film may not have been fit enough to lick the red boots of its two predecessors, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t feature the odd flash of brilliance. The addition of an evil Superman not only gave Reeve the chance to flex his acting muscles, it also provided the otherwise limp sequel with one of its most exiting sequences. After all, what’s more dangerous to Supes than a being with identical powers? Singer should have pulled the same trick in Returns, instead of just making Brandon Routh lift large objects for 154 minutes…
