With Bobby wheelchair-bound in hospital, a frustrated Castiel finds he is unable to heal him. Despite being now untraceable to all angels, Castiel calls upon Sam and Dean – he needs Dean’s amulet in order to burn it in God’s presence. Meanwhile Sam and Dean assist Ellen, Rufus and Jo in ridding a small town of demons. On a hunt for supplies Sam and Dean fight some black-eyed teenagers. After destroying them with the Ruby’s knife, Sam finds himself attracted to the blood. Following this, the seemingly possessed Jo and Rufus capture Sam. While Sam is in captivity a man declares to be War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. He has been fooling the townsfolk into thinking they are possessed. After being reunited with Dean, Sam assists in finding War and cutting off the ring he was using to control the town’s inhabitants. Sam admits to Dean that he can’t trust himself any more and needs a break from hunting. He then leaves town alone.
