James Gunn confirms that John Cena and Peacemaker will be back for Season Two. He also has some rather exciting news about spin-off series, Waller…

Peacemaker

Coming off the back of John Cena’s hilarious cameo at the 2024 Oscars, we have confirmation from James Gunn on the status of Cena’s superhero series, Peacemaker.

Gunn confirmed on Instagram that Season Two of the comedy show will be happening, and that they will be shooting the series and his new Superman movie simultaneously. “I’ve written all the episodes,” Gunn said, “but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some).”

Gunn also confirmed that the Waller spin-off series, based on the character Amanda Waller played by Viola Davis in the series, is still happening and that its writers Jeremy Carver and Christal Henry “are hard at work writing great stuff”.

He also clarified that the Waller schedule was “impacted by the strikes” and so that series will come after Peacemaker “in the larger order of things”.

Gunn has made a few exciting announcements recently in regards to the DCU, including confirming that his new Superman movie will simply be called ‘Superman‘ rather than the previous loose title of ‘Superman Legacy’ and that principle photography of the movie has officially begun! Read more about that here and see Nicholas Hoult (who will play Lex Luthor in the new movie) sporting a rather different hair cut…

Superman will be released on 11 July 2025.
