Film4 FrightFest 2014 is just around the corner, and its been announced that Adam Wingard’s ’80s infused violent thriller The Guest will open the horror festival.

The new film from Wingard and writer Simon Barrett (the team behind You’re Next and A Horrible Way To Die) stars Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens as David, a returned veteran who arrives at the Peterson family home claiming to know their son, who was killed in combat. David moves in and seems to be the perfect guest, until a series of deaths becomes linked to this new arrival. Who exactly is David and what does he want? Maika Monroe (The Bling Ring), Lance Reddick (The Wire), Ethan Embry (Cheap Thrills), Joel David Moore (Avatar) and Leland Orser (Taken) also star.

Wingard stated, “FrightFest movie goers are some of the most diehard genre enthusiasts in the world. Naturally I am delighted that The Guest will be opening this year’s festival.”

The Guest will play on the festival’s opening night: 21 August. FrightFest runs until 25 August, and the remaining films (of which there will be many) will be announced on Friday.
