Annabelle 2 trailer teases the return of the evil doll

Witness a terrifying tea-party in the first Annabelle 2 teaser

The first teaser has arrived for Annabelle 2, the sequel to The Conjuring‘s evil doll spin-off, and it’s a fun little scene that is actually encouraging for those of hoping for something a bit better this time around.

Annabelle 2 is directed by David F Sandberg, the man behind Warner Bros’ summer horror hit Lights Out, and the studio is presumably hoping he’ll conjure (sorry) a similarly successful end product with this.

The new chapter in the creepy toy’s saga has a solid cast, including Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto and Stephanie Sigman (Narcos), and it’s written by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote the first movie and Andy Muschietti’s upcoming It remake. James Wan stays on as producer.

“Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.”

Although we weren’t big fans of the first movie, it was a massive financial success for Warner Bros, making $256 million from a $6.5 million budget, so a sequel was inevitable. We’re hoping that Sandberg makes good on his pledge to deliver “The Godfather 2 of creepy doll movies.” Because, let’s be honest, we all love creepy doll movies, and we deserve a good one. And while we’re talking about creepy doll movies, where’s that new Chucky sequel, eh? Eh?

Annabelle 2 is released on 19 May in the US and 26 May in the UK. Keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
