Thanksgiving: Eli Roth on making a slasher movie

Find out more about new holiday slasher Thanksgiving with a behind-the-scenes look featuring Eli Roth…

“This has to be the movie that if I never make another film, it doesn’t matter. I made this one. That’s enough.” Writer and director Eli Roth describes how excited he was to make a slasher movie in a new behind-the-scenes featurette of Thanksgiving.

Eli Roth has a new seasonal slasher with Thanksgiving, out this November.

“Growing up, I dreamed of writing a slasher movie that would be like Scream or Halloween,” he says. “One of these guessing-who-the-killer-is, something that’s incredibly scary. That’s also fun with fantastic kills.”

Indeed, coming from the man behind gore-fests like Hostel, and Cabin Fever, we can certainly expect some epic kills in the movie.

“Anytime we do a death, we try to truly make it a classic kill. We take it very seriously, it’s a badge of honour for us!” says Roth.

“Anytime we do a death, we try to truly make it a classic kill.”

In Thanksgiving, after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorises Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Will the town uncover the killer and survive the holidays… or become guests at his twisted holiday dinner table?

The movie stars Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted), Addison Rae (He’s All That), Milo Manheim (School Spirits), Jalen Brooks Thomas (Walker), Nell Verlaque (Big Shot), Rick Hoffman (Suits) and Gina Gershon (New Amsterdam).

“This is the kind of movie you go see opening night so no one spoils it,” he says, “you just go and you scream!”

Thanksgiving will be in cinemas on 17 November.  Check out the featurette in full here…
