Star Wars: The Mandalorian review: This is the Star Wars series you are looking for

We review Disney+’s first live action Star Wars series.

With the Skywalker saga drawing to a divisive conclusion with The Rise Of Skywalker, there’s a weight of expectation around Disney+’s first live action Star Wars series. Barring a couple of forgiveable Stormtrooper-esque misfires around the midway point (Firefly won’t be losing its status as the best space western series just yet), The Mandalorian exceeds those expectations with eight episodes of solid entertainment.

Set five years after Return Of The Jedi and the fall of the galactic empire, the show focuses on a bounty hunter known as The Mandalorian or Mando (Pedro Pascal) whose path gets drastically altered when he is offered an under-the-table job that yields unexpected results.

His journey is accompanied by a worthy supporting cast, in particular the show’s worst kept secret (c’mon… six months of Baby Yoda memes and no context?!) who, aside from being the cutest thing in the galaxy, acts as the moral compass to Mando’s elusive character.

No expense has been spared in Jon Favreau’s creation, which captures the real essence of the original trilogy, and it has a diverse directional team, including Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard making her directional debut.

Considering the weight of being the flagship Disney+ show, The Mandalorian exceeds all expectations, whilst raising questions we can look forward to being answered in future seasons. Make no mistake, this is the Star Wars series you are looking for.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is available now on Disney+.
