X-Files 3 could star Simon Pegg, says Chris Carter

The X-Files 3 could go right back to the mythology, with a role for Simon Pegg

Speaking to Empire about the long-mooted third X-Files movie, the show’s creator Chris Carter revealed that they would want to return to the classic arc – there’s no getting away from the fact the alien invasion was scheduled to begin 21 December 2012 for instance…

“I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together,” said Carter. “I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonisation date has passed and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology.”

The showrunner/director added that given the choice, they’d also be drafting in sci-fi’s geekiest guest star – Simon Pegg.

Gillian [Anderson] worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me that he was a big fan,” revealed Carter. “We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.”

The first two X-Files movies are available on Limited Edition Blu-ray steelbook from 2 September 2013, pre-order them now for £16.51 from Amazon.co.uk.
