Christopher Nolan has spoken out, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, about whether he will return to helm a third Batman movie. Nolan says: “There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that is going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: ‘How many good third movies in a franchise can people name?’” He concluded by saying, “It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible.”
While a third Batman flick from Nolan is something we’d like to see, we can understand his reluctance to deliver a sub par movie. After the high-flying, web-swinging antics of Spider-Mans 1 and 2, Raimi came a cropper with his third instalment and it would be a shame to see the Bats series go down a similar route With Nolan, though, we’re sure he’d be up to the task of avoiding such a pitfall. Fingers crossed.
