In a piece of geektastic casting, the legendary Simon Pegg – star of beloved nerd comedies Spaced, Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead – has signed up to voice Dengar, a bounty hunter who first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

Pegg commented, “Dengar is one of the elite. If you’re on Darth Vader’s bounty hunter speed dial you are the best in the galaxy. It was a total honour to play this mysterious, hard man from my favorite Star Wars movie.”

The Correllian bounty hunter is a big part of Han Solo’s back story in the Expanded Universe, but given the proposed Star Wars: Underworld TV series is supposed to be a Sopranos like affair, perhaps with Boba Fett as a central character, could Pegg be gearing up to take on the role in a live action setting as well?
