Saw Legacy is now titled Jigsaw, let the games begin

The Saw franchise’s latest chapter will be titled Jigsaw

The latest chapter in the bloody Saw franchise, which is being directed by the excellent Spierig Brothers (Predestination, Daybreakers) has been given an official title: Jigsaw.

Bloody Disgusting reports that the placeholder title of Saw: Legacy has been swapped out for a name that places its big bad, aka John Kramer (played by Tobin Bell), front and centre.

Of course, Kramer was killed off in Saw III, and given a gory autopsy at the start of Saw IV just to drive that home, but Bell returned to reprise his role as his traps continued from beyond the grave with the help (kind of) of his wicked acolyte Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor). The Final Chapter, which was released in 2010, revealed that Kramer had recruited Cary Elwes’ Dr Lawrence Gordon to help him off Hoffman after the detective went off the rails and went after John’s wife Jill (Betsy Russell), but it still ended on a cliffhanger despite being the “final chapter.”

However, neither Mandylor nor Elwes are returning for Jigsaw, at least…as far as we know. The synopsis as given by Bloody Disgusting is as follows:

“Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?”

The confirmed cast for Jigsaw includes Bell, Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

The Spierigs direct a script by Piranha 3D writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Jigsaw is set for release on 20 October in the UK and 27 October in the US. Keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
