Rare book seller Peter Harrington has launched its latest literature catalogue which includes rare fantasy and science fiction books spanning a broad selection of popular and specialist genres.
Entitled In Other Worlds: Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Beyond, the 180-item catalogue spans several centuries and genres, from dystopian and apocalyptic fiction to imaginative tales that have defined enduring classics of children’s literature.
Catalogue highlights include:
- A deluxe signed limited edition of George R.R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones; A Clash of Kings; A Storm of Swords; A Feast For Crows; A Dance of Dragons – one of only 52 lettered sets signed by the author and illustrators with an original drawing in each volume. (£27,500)
- First edition, in the rare and desirable first state of both text and binding of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. (£55,000)
- First edition, a very scarce example inscribed by the author, of Frank Herbert’s Dune (£12,500)
- A signed first hardcover edition of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson (£2,250)
- First editions of R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy (£27,500)
- First hardcover edition, first impression, of Jack Finney’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers (£1,500)
- A first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (£39,500)
- First edition, first impression of Pierre Boulle’s La Planète des singes which was the inspiration for the Planet of the Apes film series. (£950)
Other highlights include a signed first edition of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials; Metropolis by Thea Von Harbou and Fritz Lang, the first illustrated edition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; an inscribed copy of Bram Stoker’s Dracula; T. H White’s The Sword In The Stone, presented as original proof pages bound with the original wrappers; the first edition of J. M Barrie’s Peter And Wendy, an adapted novel form of the 1904 stage play Peter Pan; and signed galley proofs of Diana Wynne Jones’ Howl’s Moving Castle.
