After years in production, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is finally getting going, and the cast is falling into place.
The latest star to join the film of Seth Grahame-Smith’s mash-up is Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston. Deadline reports that Huston will be playing Wickham, “a very handsome charismatic blond lieutenant. He and Liz are immediately attracted to each other, and he’s familiar with her combat skills. Wickham aims to teach zombies to fight, and he wins Liz over with his theories regarding training them.”
After going through a heap of potential stars and directors (Natalie Portman was confirmed to star at one point, while Mike White, David O Russell, and Richard Kelly were among the potential directors), Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is written and directed by Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down, Charlie St Cloud).
Huston joins Lily James (Downton Abbey, Wrath Of The Titans) – who’ll be playing Elizabeth Bennett – Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) and Sam Riley (Control, Byzantium, Maleficent).
He’s best known to audiences for his brilliant performance as scarred killer Richard Harrow in Boardwalk Empire, and was recently seen in American Hustle and Kill Your Darlings.
Pride And Prejudice And Zombies begins filming in September. Given that the book was at the forefront of the literary/horror mashup phenomenon, it seems strange that it’s taken so long to get to the big screen. Will it be worth the wait? Or will it be another Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?
