The Cannes film festival is over for another year, and one film that we need to see is Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper, starring Kristen Stewart, which won the filmmaker the best director award (shared with Christian Mungiu for Graduation).
In the film, Stewart plays Maureen, a young woman who acts as a “personal shopper” for wealthy client Kyra, and who is still mourning her brother, who was a medium before he passed away. Maureen believes that her brother will contact her from the other side and she goes to great lengths to try to make that happen.
The film did get mixed reviews at Cannes, but pretty much every film gets mixed reviews at Cannes. The trailer looks intriguing and Assayas (Clouds Of Sils Maria, Demonlover, Irma Vep) is always worth watching.
Personal Shopper does not currently have a UK release date. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
