New Warriors TV series in development; could star Squirrel Girl

Squirrel Girl! On TV! With the New Warriors! What’s not to love?

Praise the TV Gods: Marvel and ABC Studios have reportedly come together again and are developing a series based on the New Warriors. The potential series would be a half-hour comedy, according to TVLine, but Marvel and ABC have so far declined to comment.

For those not in the know, the New Warriors are basically the teen version of the Avengers made up of the likes of Nova, Namorita, Justice, Firestar, Speedball and Night Thrasher. The ongoing New Warriors comic series was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz.

TVLine also suggested that the show could feature none other than Squirrel Girl, everyone’s favourite super-powered human-squirrel mutate, saying it would revolve around “a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (a.k.a. Squirrel Girl).”

Anna Kendrick recently made her interest in playing Squirrel Girl clear in an interview with Net A Porter. She said: “My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

But we don’t know. We already have our hearts set on Barb actress Shannon Purser…
