NBC: “Chuck renewed due to fans and critics”

In a conference call with journalists recently, NBC executives attributed the renewal of Chuck to the efforts of its fans both within and without the media, and the intelligent way in which they campaigned for it to come back.

The news comes through Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily.

“[The show wasn’t cancelled] because of the demand for Chuck that came out of the online community, the critical community, and the advertising base made us have to pick up that show. The other shows [on the bubble] had none of that attention or energy,” said the unnamed executive. “I was sent more Nerds than anyone could consume in a lifetime… And Subway and Subway consumers drove so much energy our way.” Finke also reported that while Chuck won’t be returning until after the Olympics, original content will be released in the interim. Chuck has previously released webisode series during the hiatus between seasons, and it’s likely that it will take this form going forward

Chuck stars Zachary Levi, Adam Baldwin, Yvonne Strahovski and Joshua Gomez. The series was recently picked up for a third season of 13 episodes, however the budget has been reduced and the rumour among entertainment journalists is that a supporting character may be cut from the cast.
