Misfits US remake gets a cast and a pilot order from Freeform

That US Misfits remake is still going ahead and it has a cast

Remember when there was going to be a US Misfits remake and everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, why are they remaking Misfits already?’ Well, it turns out that pre-production has been continuing on the down low ever since, and it doesn’t actually sound that bad.

The show, which will also be called Misfits, has just been given a pilot order from US network Freeform and will be produced by Gossip Girl and The OC‘s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s production company Fake Empire. iZombie co-creator Diane Ruggiero-Wright wrote the pilot and will serve as showrunner, while Victoria Mahoney (Grey’s Anatomy) is directing it.

Freeform has really been on it, with four out of five of the titular misfits already cast: the pilot so far has Ashleigh LaThrop (Sirens) as Alicia, Tre Hall (Rebel) as Curtis, Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) as Kelly and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie) as Nathan.

Here are some character descriptions, which sound as though they slightly differ from those of the original series, as told by Deadline:

Alicia: “a spoiled, vapid, middle-class party girl who seems to have three main goals in life: have fun, look hot and get guys.”

Curtis: “a talented and cocky football player with a promising career ahead of him who is used to everything going his way.”

Kelly: “tough and trashy… street smart with a hair-trigger temper and a penchant for beating the crap out of people.”

Nathan: “a con artist and thief with a heavily inflated sense of his own attractiveness, intelligence and potential.”

Now to cast Simon…

For those unfamiliar, Misfits tells the story of a group of young offenders completing community service who discover they each have special powers after getting caught outside during a freak electrical storm.

Misfits doesn’t yet have an air date. You can buy the original E4 series on DVD for £19.99 from Amazon.co.uk. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
