Joker solo film wants Zazie Beetz to join Joaquin Phoenix

Atlanta and Deadpool 2’s most excellent Zazie Beetz is up for a role in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie

With a release date confirmed for Todd Phillips’ dark, gritty Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, the wheels are now definitely in motion and the cast is coming together.

THR reports that the awesome Zazie Beetz, who stars in Atlanta and stole the show in Deadpool 2 as Domino, is in talks for a key role in the film.

If she signs on, Beetz will play “a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the ‘clown prince of crime.'”

Warner Bros have set a release date of 4 October 2019 for the film that’s just called Joker and they’re looking at a September start date. They’re keeping the budget (relatively) low, and it’s described as “more of a dark character study than a crime thriller, with Taxi Driver and The King Of Comedy as the tonal watchwords.” Plot details are being kept secret.

We’re all for DC exploring their universe away from some kind of prime timeline, and this is quickly becoming the most exciting project on their roster (with the exception of Wonder Woman 2, of course).

Joker is released on 4 October 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
