Interactive haunted house film coming from Amblin and Alexandre Aja

Alexandre Aja will direct an interactive horror film for Amblin

The Hills Have Eyes director Alexandre Aja will helm a new interactive haunted house film for Amblin, according to Collider.

The film is set to be a choose-your-own-adventure style story and was inspired by an idea from The Haunting Of Hill House‘s Jeff Howard and Mike Flanagan. Howard is on board to write the film with Aja and Nick Simon (The Girl In The Photographs).

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners is teaming up with Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie technology to bring the film to life. The tech allows filmmakers to make interactive stories that allows the audience to influence the storylines.

Instead of there being on-screen options like there are in Black Mirror‘s popular interactive episode ‘Bandersnatch‘ (which is available to stream on Netflix), viewers will be able to see the upcoming film in cinemas and vote on what characters do during pivotal points in the narrative using an app on their phones. The film will have a different plot, ending and running time with each viewing, depending on what the audience votes for.

Chady Eli Matta and Scott C Silver of Kino Industries are set to serve as producers on the film, with Aja executive producing alongside Greg Levasseur. Jeb Brody and John Buderwitz will oversee the project for Amblin. The film is currently untitled.
