It’s been reported that DreamWorks Animation is in the process of adapting Gil’s All Fright Diner into a feature film. According to Slash Film, Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (of Kung Fu Panda fame) have been appointed as writers on this project, and in a pleasing development Barry Sonnenfeld is attached to direct.
Written by A Lee Martinez, Gil’s All Fright Diner is a supernatural tale that centres on a vampire and werewolf teaming up to fight a zombie invasion. The events within this book take place in and around an all night diner.
Putting Sonnenfeld at the helm of this adaptation is a shrewd move on the part of DreamWorks. In The Addams Family, Sonnenfeld proved he could direct a horror comedy that appeals to both children and adults. Fingers crossed he gets the blend right with this one.
