The first publicity photograph for Jonah Hex has been released, featuring Josh Brolin as the titular gunslinger. Our first look at the character was of course in the poster released several months ago, but this is the first time we’ve seen his costume in detail.
The eye injury however, the most iconic aspect of Hex’s character, is obscured. The production was having several problems in replicating the effect – CGI would have been too tricky, while attempting to keep Brolin’s eyelid taped open led very quickly to the risk of infecting the organ. On set photographs have made it seem unlikely that they found a workaround for the issue, but it’s interesting that they chose to pose Brolin in this way, nevertheless.
