elizaThe season finale of Dollhouse slumped in its ratings once more last Friday, further cementing the distinct possibility of cancellation when Fox announces its shows for next year on 18 May.

The freshman series from Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) has been in a ratings freefall all season, unable to improve on the already mediocre figures from its premiere, which attracted around 4.7 million viewers. The final episode, ‘Omega’, managed to pull in only 2.7 million, down from last week’s penultimate rating of 3.1 million.

However, these figures do not include DVR totals, which are typically released much later than Nielsen live figures. In addition, the network will have to consider that Wolverine was released last weekend, and Star Trek this weekend in the cinema, almost certainly detracting from the audience numbers by a large margin.

Dollhouse has just finished its first season on Fox, and stars Eliza Dushku, Tamoh Penikett, and Amy Acker.
