Doctor Who: New artwork show fresh and familiar faces

“Doctor! Donna! Doctor! Ruby!” check out the new character posters for Doctor Who.

The Doctor will be wearing a face he hasn’t used for quite some time as David Tennant is set to play our favourite Time Lord once again in three special episodes for the series 60th anniversary, which will be shown this November.

Tennant will be joined by another familiar face as Catherine Tate rejoins the series for the special episodes, playing companion Donna Noble.

The three episodes will be entitled ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’, as was revealed in the specials’ trailer. Which you can watch below…

David Tennant will play the Fourteenth Doctor for the three specials, before Ncuti Gatwa takes over the role as the Fifteenth Doctor over the festive season, with his companion, Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson.

Doctor Who showrunner Russel T Davies revealed on Instagram earlier this week that filming has wrapped on the 14th season of the show and now brand new character posters have been released by the BBC showing Tennent, Tate, Gatwa and Gibson.

“Doctor! Donna! Doctor! Ruby! It’s going to be a Doctor Who Winter! In fact, it’s a… Doctor Whinter…. no 😞 let’s not, no. Scrap the campaign!” Davies said on Instagram with the posters.

Tennent and Tate aren’t the only familiar faces returning to Doctor Who.

It was revealed last month that Bonnie Langford will once again reprise her legendary role as Melanie Bush. Bonnie first entered the world of Doctor Who in 1986 as the companion to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors played by Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, before returning in a cameo role in Jodie Whittaker’s final episode as the Thirteenth Doctor.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Melanie Bush back,” said Langford. “To be part of the exceptional cast, crew and production team led by the force of nature that is Russell T Davies is a career highlight. I’m so privileged and proud to have been a member of the Doctor Who family since the classic era and to be included in the new generation is phenomenal.”

Langford will be joined by a slew of fresh faces that have recently been announced to join the Doctor Who family. They include two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner, Jinkx Monsoon appearing in a “major role”, alongside screen and stage star Jonathan Groff, Indira Varma and BAFTA award-winner, Lenny Rush (pictured below as his new Doctor Who character, Morris).

Lenny Rush will play Morris.

“This is what Doctor Who’s all about, brand new talent from the next generation, and no one’s more talented than Lenny!” Davies said. “He joins the TARDIS team just in time for the Doctor’s greatest nightmare, so hold on tight!”

Doctor Who will premiere exclusively on the BBC for the UK and Ireland. Disney+ will be the exclusive home for new seasons of Doctor Who outside of the UK and Ireland.
