It’s finally TV Christmas Specials season and Doctor Who‘s offering is just around the corner. The BBC has finally revealed that the episode will be titled ‘The Husbands Of River Song’. It’s pretty self-explanatory (we’re guessing the Professor has been married a few times?) but knowing Doctor Who it’s probably a lot more cryptic and complicated than that.

It has been known for a while now that Alex Kingston will be returning as River, and Greg Davies and Matt Lucas will be guest starring, but now an official synopsis has also been released:

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas carols and comedy antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant robot bodyguard is out of control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?

‘The Husbands Of River Song’ is written by Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon.
