Deadpool 2 confirms return of 2 major characters

X-citing (sorry) news: 2 familiar faces will be back for Deadpool 2

While things haven’t exactly been peachy during the development of Deadpool 2 – what with director Tim Miller having departed over creative differences, and composer Junkie XL following suit shortly after – things are looking slightly rosier on the casting front in light of this latest piece of news, as it has been confirmed that Stefan Kapicic and Brianna Hildebrand will be back as Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead respectively for the Merc With a Mouth’s sequel.

The news was confirmed in an interview with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who said in the following transcript in response to an enquiry about their status:

PAUL WERNICK: I can’t say how much they are…

RHETT REESE: I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel.

WERNICK: Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus will both return for Deadpool 2.

While Ryan Reynolds was (obviously) the star of the show, the additions of these two worked well – the straight-laced Colossus for his hilariously doomed attempts to bring Deadpool over to the ways of the X-Men, and Warhead for her devil-may-give-a-shit attitude, not to mention her ludicrous codename and over the top powers. Since they’ll be joining new mutants Cable and Domino in the sequel – who themselves are more in line with Deadpool in terms of their methodology, as prominent members of the militant mutant group X-Force in the comics – we can no doubt expect some hilarious conflicts to ensue.

They join Ryan Reynolds as thus far the only other confirmed cast member for the sequel, although we hope that Morena Baccarin and TJ Miller will return as Vanessa and Weasel respectively. David Leitch is on directing duties in the absence of Tim Miller, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on scriptwriting duties.

Deadpool 2 will be released in cinemas in 2018. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
