Iron Fist hasn’t even aired yet, but we’ve still got this preview of Marvel’s big Netflix team-up The Defenders, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly – and we like what we say.
With the cover image lining up core team members Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones), the other photos instead choose to depict the characters on their own: Cage is in jail, as per the ending of his own series, while Jones has also found herself in handcuffs, seen here being interrogated by Misty Knight (Simone Missick). Meanwhile, Rand hangs with Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) on a rooftop, while Murdock makes like a Daredevil and chills in an alleyway. Coupled with the graffiti being used for the title font, and it’s clear that the showrunners are embracing the ‘street level’ theme.
But by far the best reveal – at least from our perspective – is the first photo of Alien star Sigourney Weaver’s character. Currently known only as Alexandra, we’re still convinced that she will turn out to be a major character from the Marvel universe – it has to just be an alias or a codename, surely?
Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie are serving as showrunners on The Defenders, with Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson, Elodie Yung, Deborah Ann Woll, Rachael Taylor, Scott Glenn, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss all reprising their roles from their earlier series.
The Defenders will air on Netflix later in 2017. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
