If you’ve been craving more from the Conjuring universe, you’re in luck: according to Deadline, The Conjuring 3 is very much on the way from New Line Cinema. It’s also looking at getting The Conjuring 2‘s David Leslie Johnson back to write the upcoming film’s script.
As well as the aforementioned, Johnson is also known for his scripting work on Orphan and the reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street.
There’s not much solid news regarding the director for the threequel yet, but we know it won’t be The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 helmer James Wan.
However, it’s still looking very possible that the film will bring the writer, producer and director back to the franchise in some capacity, most likely as a producer through the Atomic Monster production company that he runs with Peter Safran. It would feel really weird to make another The Conjuring film without him.
Wan and Johnson most recently worked together on the upcoming Aquaman film, having collaborated alongside Safran to rewrite the film’s script.
The Conjuring 3 will be the seventh film in the Conjuring universe, folllowing The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun and The Crooked Man, the latter of which is still in the developmental stages.
