Jeremy Renner’s fan-favourite archer Hawkeye was originally set to have a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but was written out with some of his duties absorbed by Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow.

In Captain America 3 – currently being developed by Winter Soldier duo Anthony and Joe Russo – the tables could have turned, with Renner admitting to Collider that there might be a role for Clint Barton in the treequel.

“There are rumblings of Captain America 3,” admitted Renner.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man,” he laughs. “I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

If there wasn’t much room for him in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then it’s tough to imagine Captain America 3 finding the space… unless Black Widow gets her long overdue solo movie, freeing up some space in the plot for a Falcon, Cap and Hawkeye three-way bromance.
