Amityville: The Awakening poster claims to have a release date

Latest proof of life for Amityville: The Awakening arrives

It’s that time again. We’re drawing nearer to the release date of Amityville: The Awakening, but we’ve been here before. We’ve been here on 6 January 2015, April 2016, then January 2017, and now it’s June and the apparently cursed new chapter in the franchise is looking like it might actually be released. There’s a poster and everything (via IMPAwards).

In theory, we should be excited for this. It’s directed by Franck Khalfoun, who made the very good Maniac remake, and it stars the peerless Jennifer Jason Leigh, as well as Bella Thorne, Thomas Mann, Jennifer Morrison, genre legend Kurtwood Smith and Gotham scene-stealer Cameron Monaghan. But it was made in 2014, and that’s a long time for a film like this be waiting…

Still, fingers crossed, eh?

Dread Central also noticed that the poster is pretty much a direct rip from a film called The Possession Experiment, seeming to use the exact same imagery. Which is neither OK nor a good omen.

“Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house”

Amityville: The Awakening will be released on 30 June. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
