It may not be out until July 3, 2012, but the The Amazing Spider-Man, which stars Andrew Garfield in the title-role and is still only in post-production, has already been greenlit for a sequel with a tentative release date of May 2, 2014 – merely 12 year since Tobey Macguire first pulled up his mask to kiss Kirsten Dunst upside down in the rain, and seven years since the last film, 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
A Columbia Pictures spokesman said the scheduling move “speaks volumes” about the quality of the film, which has picked up a huge buzz at SDCC.
