Akira remake isn’t dead, writer confirmed for live-action film

Jaume Collet-Serra’s Akira remake has a new writer, is it getting close to production?

AkiraThe long-gestating live-action Akira remake is still gestating and a writer has been confirmed.

Bloody Disgusting noticed a story buried in a Deadline report about Edge Of Tomorrow writer Dante Harper signing on to script The Secret Of The Temple, which noted that Hooper is currently working on Jaume Collet-Serra’s (Orphan, Non-Stop) Akira.

Collet-Serra’s film of Akira is the one that seemed to come closest to reality before being junked in 2012, before he was brought back on in August last year. Things have been very quiet since then, but Collet-Serra has remained attached, and spoke about hoping to make the film back in February.

With a new writer on board and several years dedicated to bringing Akira to live-action life, could Collet-Serra’s version actually be the one to get made?

You can buy Akira on Blu-ray for £7.49 at Amazon.co.uk.
