We may have to wait until 2025 for the new Superman movie, Superman Legacy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited over new casting announcements! As first reported by Variety, Skyler Gisondo will play Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio will play Lex Luthor’s assistant-turned-love interest, Eve Teschmacherr.
This comes just after Deadline’s announcement that María Gabriela De Faría will play Superman’s antagonist in the movie: The Engineer.
They will join the previously announced cast of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, as well as Nathan Fillion playing Green Lantern, Isabela Merced playing Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Superman Legacy writer and director (and co-CEO of DC Studios) took to Instagram to talk about the casting: “After auditioning hundreds of folks for both of these roles, we finally found perfect fits with both Skyler Gisondo and Sara Sampaio! Can’t wait for you guys to see them in action in the summer of ‘25!”
“So grateful for the opportunity. Stoked for the adventure,” commented Gisondo in the post.
Gisondo is probably best known for his roles in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2021 Oscar-nominated Liquorice Pizza and Netflix zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet.
Sampaio, a Portuguese model, took to Twitter to express her excitement on the role: “Thank you all for the love!” she said. “Can’t wait to show you guys Eve.”
Gunn has described Superman: Legacy as “the true beginning of the DCU” and will focus on a younger Superman (which is why Henry Cavill couldn’t return to the role), though it won’t go into Supes’ well-known origin story. It was announced earlier this year that Gunn would be both writing and directing the movie.
“Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025,” he said on social media at the time. “I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey.”
Superman: Legacy will be released on 11 July 2025
