Darabont no longer showrunning The Walking Dead

Leaves season 2 in the hands of a new writing team.

Acclaimed director Frank Darabont has stepped down as showrunner of The Walking Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Darabont helped get the AMC smash off of the ground, directing the pilot episode and overseeing its six-episode first year as executive producer. With its second year, Darabont gathered a team of writers to tackle the 13-episode run, fronted by Glen Mazzara. The show will presumably be left in their hands.

The Walking Dead returns in October on AMC in the US.
