Following in the footsteps of Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor, it has been confirmed by The Wrap that What We Do In The Shadows and Flight Of The Conchords director Taika Waititi will be helming Thor: Ragnarok.
Having apparently beaten off competiton from Zombieland and Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer, Waititi is a rather left-field choice for a big-budget Marvel movie, but one we’re definitely on board with. It’s hard to tell exactly what the House of Ideas are going for, considering that actual plot details are sparse at present (the title refers to an apocalyptic storyline from the comics, although as ever, it’s likely it will be tweaked for the big screen).
It is being written by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander all confirmed to be reprising their roles.
Thor: Ragnarok will be released in cinemas on 27 October 2017. Check out the comics that inspired the film in the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now.
