Sony PlayStation Network’s Powers TV series, based on the comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, has finally cast its lead, as District 9 and Elysium‘s Sharlto Copley has been announced as playing Christian Walker.

TVLine reports that the Maleficent star has been cast alongside Susan Heyward, who will be playing Deena Pilgrim, as well as Hannibal‘s Eddie Izzard and Game Of Thrones‘ Noah Taylor. He plays Walker, a cop who “possessed super powers, but lost them in a battle with a super-human mass killer. He now uses his singular expertise to investigate crimes in the Powers community.”

He’s not the only new arrival, however. The excellent Michelle Forbes (True Blood, Battlestar Galactica, Orphan Black) has been cast as Retro Girl: “An icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand.”

With David Slade at the helm, Powers is quickly developing into one of the most promising new series on the horizon.

Powers airs in December on the Sony PlayStation Network. You can buy Powers – Volume 1 for £9.68 at Amazon.co.uk and find out more about the comics that inspired the show with new digital magazine Uncanny Comics.
