Howard Overman’s next is horror comedy TV series Crazy Face

Misfits creator bringing Crazy Face to E4 and Netflix

Misfits creator Howard Overman has lined up his next project, a horror comedy TV series called Crazy Face.

THR reports that Overman is reteaming with E4 for the comedy drama series, which stars Downton Abbey‘s Cara Theobald and Chewing Gum‘s Susan Wokoma as an “unlikely pair of demon hunters.”

Described as “a funny and gripping entry about friendship, love and facing your demons,” Crazy Face sounds like another winner from Overman, and it’s got a streaming deal with Netflix for the US. Check out the longer synopsis below and start getting excited.

“When people die most go quietly into the night. But some have unfinished business: scores to settle. These souls work through their issues by possessing the living. Most of the time they walk freely among us, unseen by all but a special few. Amy (Theobold) is one of those few. She works in a bowling alley and never imagined herself battling the legions of hell. Enter Raquel (Wokoma), armed with Wikipedia and a baton she bought on eBay, Raquel’s a self-made demon hunter with a whole lot of baggage and an impressive lack of social skills.”

The cast also includes the most excellent Tony Curran (Doctor Who, Defiance) as the villainous Callum, as well as Riann Steele (In The Flesh), Lewis Reeves (Unforgotten), and Arinze Kene (Youngers). Filming starts this week in Bristol.

In addition to Misfits, which ran for five series on E4, Overman has also worked on shows like Merlin, Atlantis, Vexed and Dirk Gently. We’ve definitely missed Misfits since it left us, and we are very excited by the prospect of more Overman genre-mashing on our screens. Bring it on.

You can buy Misfits – Series 1-5 on Blu-ray for £32 at Amazon.co.uk. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
