The third game in the Arkham Asylum series has been announced as Batman: Arkham Origins, and is reported to be a prequel heavily influenced by Frank Miller’s seminal Year One comic-book arc, but this origin story will be the titular asylum’s, not Bruce Wayne.

WB Montreal is developing Batman: Arkham Origins for a Playstation3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U release in October 2013.

According to GameInformer, Origins is set “years before both of the previous Arkham titles when a young, unrefined Batman encounters many supervillains for the first time.”

One such supervillain, Deathstroke, who is currently appearing in The CW’s Arrow, will be making his Arkham debut as one of 8 assassins who have converged in Gotham City on Christmas Eve to take down the Bat.

No clues as of yet to who the other assassins will be, but not bringing back Deadshot would be a travesty. So who else fits the bill in the Bat-mythos? Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger, Cheshire, and perhaps even Cassandra Cain before she’s offered the mantle of Batgirl.

Only time will tell.
