The Dark Tower TV series is reportedly set up at Amazon

Could Roland’s small screen adventure still be happening?

Following the release of Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower movie last year, it looked as though the mooted companion TV series might not happen. The box office was poor, the reviews were unkind, and once IT came out, everyone pretty much forgot another Stephen King movie had even happened.

However, in a report about Amazon’s Consider Phlebas TV series, Deadline dropped in a little nugget of information that seems like it deserves a slightly bigger mention. They reeled off a list of other genre shows Amazon is developing, and there was The Dark Tower (alongside Wheel Of Time, Snowcrash, Lazarus and Ringworld, which all have the potential to be massive damn shows too).

It’s such a minor mention of such a newsworthy piece of info that you have to wonder if there’s anything to it, but if it is the case that Amazon is working on The Dark Tower, then The Walking Dead veteran Glen Mazzara is presumably still working on the series.

When Stephen King talked to Vulture last year he was pragmatic about the show’s chances but did say “It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see.” Idris Elba has been cautiously interested about returning as The Gunslinger, and it would definitely be nice to see him get the chance to delve a little deeper into the character as he was one of the highlights of the film.

Anyway, with the flurry of interest that Deadline’s report seems to have caused, maybe we’ll get some good meaty news on The Dark Tower soon.
