Things aren’t looking good for Sony’s The Crow remake: the film has somehow lost star Jason Momoa and director Colin Hardy in the same week.
Momoa took to Instagram on Thursday to confirm that he’s departing the project.
“I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role,” he wrote. “I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right.”
Clearly not feeling the star’s exit, director Colin Hardy followed suit. According to Deadline, the unravelling of the film is down to disputes regarding creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, whose company Davis Films held underlying rights and was financing the project.
This isn’t the first time Hardy has left The Crow. Hardy originally replaced F Javier Gutierrez as director, but the film almost lost him to bankruptcy woes back in 2015 and he’s been hopping on and off ever since.
Luke Evans was also originally signed up to star as Eric Draven before jumping ship, and was replaced by Momoa in 2016.
The Crow can’t catch a break. It’s been in development for what has felt like eternity and things just keep on going wrong. Maybe it’s time to put it to bed once and for all.
