Deadline have revealed that Terminator 5 is finally moving ahead, with Avatar screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis and Drive Angry‘s Patrick Lussier name as the duo responsible for bringing the script together.

Annapurna Pictures producer Megan Ellison beat Lionsgate to the Terminator 5 rights in a bidding war in 2011. Although a newcomer to Hollywood, Ellison’s name is on the likes of Zero Dark Thirty, The Master and Lawless, and she has teamed up with her brother David Ellison’s Skydance Productions to help bring the film to life.

Skydance, although a similarly fresh operation, co-finances and co-produces films for Paramount, and so is involved in the likes of World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness and Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the seed of a storyline for Terminator 5 is believed to have come from Skydance.

Arnold Schwarzenneger was previously pencilled in to reprise the role, and hopefully that still holds true.
