According to The Hollywood Reporter, scheduling conflicts have reared their head and look to be preventing The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy from making his return to the DC universe as Rick Flag Jr in David Ayer’s eagerly anticipated Suicide Squad.
Hardy is currently filming The Revenant with Birdman director Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu and the site reports that filming has seriously overrun.
According to The Wrap, David Ayer is waiting around for a fix and has reached out to his End Of Watch co-star Jake Gyllenhall.
Gyllenhall is a fantastically atypical choice. Hardy may be the thinking man’s tough guy, but Gyllenhall is the tortured man’s tough guy and is at the top of his game thanks to the aforementioned End Of Watch, as well as thrillers Prisoners and Nightcrawler.
Despite the fact he’s played a detective called Loki and the lead in Nightcrawler, Suicide Squad will be his first comic-book role.
Suicide Squad is set for release in cinemas 5 August 2016. For more on the comics that have inspired the movie, pick up our 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now!
