Star Wars: The Mandalorian hires Ludwig Göransson as composer

The Mandalorian has hired Black Panther’s composer Ludwig Göransson to score the series

Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian has hired composer Ludwig Göransson to score it. Even if you don’t recognise Göransson’s name, you’ll no doubt know his work from films like Black PantherCreed and Creed II, Central IntelligenceFruitvale Station and Venom.

“Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe,” Göransson said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honour the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try.”

The series will star Pedro Pascal (Narcos) as the titular Mandalorian, with Gina Carano (Deadpool), Nick Nolte (Affliction), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).

The Mandalorian has been penned by Jon Favreau, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels‘ Dave Filoni will be directing the first episode. Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and Deborah Chow have all signed up to direct subsequent episodes. Filoni is also executive producing the show alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Favreau and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as a co-executive producer.

The show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, and will follow the adventures of a lone gunfighter (Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy, away from the authority of the New Republic. The show will air on Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+.

The Mandalorian doesn’t yet have an air date, but it will premiere on Disney+. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
