Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer will be released uncut in the US, as the Weinsteins have reached an agreemeent with the director.

After being released to general acclaim at film festivals and in non-English speaking territories (read our glowing review here), who were apparently ready to take on a film with challenging subject matter and a two-hour running time, Harvey Weinstein has agreed to release Bong’s preferred cut of Snowpiercer.

However, Deadline states that the film, starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell, Song Kang-Ho and Ko Ah-Sung, will have a platform release in the US rather than a wide release, although the author states that “I am told that the film is not being dumped.”

With sales currently underway as the film shows at the Berlin Film Festival, it’s a time for celebration that this bold, challenging and thrilling film will be seen in its intended form, rather than having 20 minutes hacked out and a Neil Gaiman voiceover inserted. At the very least, all this controversy got people talking about it…

Fingers crossed for a UK release date soon. You can buy Snowpiercer: Volume One for £12.91 in paperback at Amazon.co.uk.
