The Wrap reports that the director of The Mist and The Shawshank Redemption is the studio’s favourite to take the reins of the long-gestating sequel, having beaten out Warrior‘s Gavin O’Connor and Mama‘s Andy Muschietti.
However, they note that Darabont himself has not yet accepted the job, and that the offer will be made soon. There’s every chance he could turn it down.
As previously rumoured, the sequel is not expected to star Kristen Stewart, and will focus more heavily on Chris Hemsworth’s rogue-ish Huntsman. The Wrap reports that any appearance from Stewart will be a cameo, and we should expect a new Huntsman-centric title.
They also suggest that Charlize Theron is going to return, which is certainly good news, as her evil queen was far and away the best thing in the first film.
