Silo: Season Two on hiatus as Hollywood strikes continue

Silo Season Two is on hiatus and the same could happen for Foundation…

The second season Apple TV+’s successful dystopian series Silo has gone on an indefinite hiatus as the Hollywood strikes continue.

As reported by Deadline, the series had planned to take a break in the UK as it switched over sets, but Apple is now expected to extend the pause until further notice.

The series, which stars Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Robbins and based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy of novels, was released on the streaming service this May and quickly became one of its most successful dramas.

“It has been enormously fulfilling to see the engrossing, atmospheric and beautifully crafted sci-fi epic Silo quickly become Apple’s number one drama series,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+ when the show was renewed for a second season. “As audiences around the world have become gripped by the mysteries and conspiracies buried within this fascinating subterranean world, viewership only continues to climb, and we are so excited for more secrets of the silo to be revealed in season two.”

The hiatus was confirmed on Twitter by Silo’s author, Hugh Howey who said: “Silo season two is on hold for a bit.”

Howey’s book series actually began back in 2011 with the short story ‘Wool’, and it’s not surprising that the series has touched a nerve with audiences as the book’s themes feel more relevant than ever, which Howey pointed out when we spoke to him earlier this year: “Some of what I wrote was really speculative,” he said, “and the idea of gathering data on people, of seeing the world through our screens, these concepts have gotten stronger, and the fascination hasn’t waned. It’s gotten more intense.

“As reality catches up to science fiction, we become more interested in these types of stories. They’re not as fanciful anymore, they’re more immediate.”

Deadline further reported that the strikes may affect Apple TV+’s fellow sci-fi series giant, Foundation – keep it here for the latest news.
