In great news for sci-fi sports fans it has been announced that Shawn Levy is on board to direct Real Steel – a robot-boxing movie. Early plot details indicate that Real Steel is set in a futuristic world, one where human boxing is unheard of and robots duke it out in the ring. The story focuses on a father/son combo who challenge this rule by stepping up to the metallic plate.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this DreamWorks project is already in the pre-production stages. John Gatins has been assigned scripting duties, and with Levy on board – a man closely associated with the Night At The Museum movies – and Steven Spielberg overseeing as exec producer, expect this to be a light-hearted affair. The film will be distributed by Disney and at this time has no production date planned.
SciFiNow will bring you more on this project in the near future.
