Riz Ahmed is in talks for Sony’s Venom Spidey spin-off

Riz Ahmed is in talks to star in Sony’s Venom film alongside Tom Hardy

In a wonderful turn of events, Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Of) is reportedly currently in talks with Sony to join their Venom movie.

Minimal information has been released thus far, but just the fact that Ahmed might be in the Spider-Man spin-off is enough to power us through to the end of the week.

It hasn’t been announced who he’ll be playing if talks are successful, but it sounds as though he might get quite a bit of screen time: sources say that he’ll be playing a popular character from the Marvel Comics. According to THR, Sony had no comment on the casting.

If Ahmed is added to the cast, he’ll be starring alongside Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) Eddie Brock (AKA Venom).

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is attached to direct, and screenwriters Scott Roseberg (Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) are writing the screenplay. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing, with Palak Patel and Eric Fineman overseeing the film for Columbia Pictures.

Venom is set to hit cinemas in October 2018. Get all the latest superhero news with every issue of SciFiNow.
